This month Microsoft is offering a relatively light Patch Tuesday, rolling out 44 patches for Windows, Office, and their development platforms.
The focus for August is right on Windows printing updates (CVE-2021-34481 and CVE-2021-36936) due to active exploitation and public disclosure. Unfortunately, this critical and urgent Windows patch is paired with a number of hard-to-test updates to the Windows network stack, NTFS file system, and core graphics system (GDI) components. We recommend that you patch Windows systems immediately and then test and deploy your Office, browser, and development patches according to the standard release schedule.
This month we’ve included some key test scenarios for Windows, Office, and .NET. to support a more focused testing regime for this release.
While we generally don’t have to worry about Azure when considering the impact of enterprise updates, this month Microsoft addressed a vulnerability for Azure AD Connect (CVE-2021-36949). In addition to this update, Microsoft publishes detailed technical steps which will further harden your system.
